Finally in the forest

We are here with first news from the field, until now mostly about the traveling. After long flight we landed in Manila. My main goal was to go Bohol as soon as possible.

But finally we decided to go by boat, partly because of great experience of the mailing partly because of our overweighed luggage which would not be accepted in the Philippine plane. The boat does not go daily so we had to spend two days in Manila. One of the best experiences was visit of the oceanarium, especially because we were allowed to touch and feed the sting fish. Thereafter the whole day cruise to Cebu island followed. We slept in the open-air part, alone between Filipino families; we experienced the sunshine as well as the rain and discussed all possible topics with the Filipino people. We met our colleague Bonn Aure in Cebu and visited the University of San Carlos. Together we arrived to the Corella station on the Bohol island. This place will be our home for the next six months. Because of the good company of the resident people I think we will like it. On Friday the long expected day came. Thanks to the skill of local aids we had the opportunity to see the tarsiers in the semi-captive enclosure. We found one young animal, one male and two females. Because of the nocturnal activity of these animals we went to the field with the sunset. At this time the tarsier call with high loud calls that we also heard in the forest. On the way back I was very lucky, I found two big eyes in the forests next to the path. This animal allowed us to watch it for fifteen minutes before he disappeared.
